The National Fire Safety Supervision Authority is the largest national supervision agency in Estonia (approximately 100 officials) and its bjective is to create a safe environment, to increase public awareness and to create the preconditions for the successful performance of rescue activities.
The field of fire safety supervision covers three primary spheres of activity:
● inspection of construction projects and new structures and approval of construction projects and permits for use of construction works;
● inspection of the adherence to fire safety regulations in institutions and companies and employing the enforcement power of the state to guarantee the satisfaction of the requirements;
● conducting proceedings related to offences regarding breaches of fire safety regulations or performing urgent procedural acts in criminal proceedings and carrying out misdemeanour procedures.
